Who We Are

Our Team

Steve Kooy

Steve has been our campus minister since January of 2007 and he loves being at Queen's. His passion is discipleship and how that gets lived out in community. If you are looking for a place to belong on campus, if you are looking for some guidance, or if you love smoothies, he would love to meet with you.

Julia Kooy

Julia is the women's ministry leader at Geneva House. Her role is to mentor and disciple women as they seek to follow Jesus. She is also the Mission Developer for Classis Quinte East, helping churches reach their community for Christ. And she coordinates Freedom Session, a ministry for people struggling with addictions, past abuse and other hurts. Julia is married to Steve Kooy and they have 2 daughters: Megan and Isabella. Julia loves God, her family, students, soccer and reading.

Nancy Smith

Nancy is a teacher and English tutor, who led an English conversation class at Geneva House as a volunteer for 6 years.  She officially joined the Geneva House leadership team three years ago to get more involved in our ministry. She is passionate about reaching out to international students and helping them connect and adjust to our Canadian culture. She loves to share about Jesus and enter into discussions on faith with those who are unfamiliar with Christianity and want to learn more.

Kathy Doering

Kathy Doering is a third generation Queen's grad, with an education, counselling and prayer ministry background. She and her husband Chris recently planted and are pastoring Living Waters Anglican Fellowship in Kingston, where Kathy leads worship. She is excited to get connected with students at Geneva. Kathy is the mother to three amazing teenagers, a bird and a puppy!

Jocelyn Hogeterp

Jocelyn is in her fourth year of Health Studies at Queen's. She has lived at Geneva for three years, and loves getting to know the new people that walk through our door. Jocelyn takes care of a lot of logistical things around the house, and is the one that will answer if you send us an email! She would love to go for tea with you and get to know you.

Laura Kuikman

Laura is in her final year of nursing at Queen’s. She has been attending Geneva House for the past four years and has been part of the soup supper connect team. If you have been to Wednesday night soup supper you have probably seen her greeting people on the front porch of Geneva. Laura enjoys playing card games, board games and basically anything that brings people together. Laura is passionate about building relationships and mentorship, when you see her around Geneva House don’t hesitate to say hi (or challenge her in a game)!

Rebekah Smith

Rebekah is a recent Queen’s graduate who loved her time here so much she put off saying goodbye for an extra year! Honestly though, Rebekah has a heart for the students of Queen’s University and is passionate about pursuing social justice (on both a large and personal-sized scale). Rebekah is also fond of family dinners, rugby, and philosophy. If you share any of these interests, or are new to Canada or Queen’s, Rebekah would really like to meet you.

Victoria Sharpe

Victoria is in her second year of studying psychology at Queen's. She has been a part of the Geneva community since her first year, and has since become a resident here. She loves hanging out with friends, playing music and drinking excessive amounts of tea. Victoria loves making new friends and would love for you to come and chat with her if you see her around!
